Conventions of horror trailer

All horror trailers follow a set of conventions to make the trailer look successful. Conventions of horror hasn't really changed mych as usually by sticking to conventions are more appealing on the eye for the audience to watch. Here is a list of typical conventions of a horror trailer:
  • Shows the 'best bits' of the film to attract viewers
  • Deserted houses
  • Unreadable book
  • Death and blood
  • Gore
  • Titles at the end
  • Dark locations
  • Killer
  • Masks
  • Dark scary atmosphere - dark clouds
  • Dramatic camera angles
  • Actions is interupted with credits on screen
  • Music indicated a frightful moment coming up
  • Icolated location - not many people around
  • Battle of good vs evil
  • commanly used dialogue - 'who are you' 'what do you want'
  • Disruption of normality
These two horror trailers show most of these conventions being used, resulting in successful trailers.
