Tropes meaning

Tropes: are reoccurring elements that continue to grow, from the repetition of someones original idea. A trope is a figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression. Generally Tropes are building blocks of texts, meaning they are closely related to memes. For example, someone starts of a new trend in the music industry and word gets around, which then develops this small idea into a trope due to the copying of the initial idea.
